There's a reason for that. There's ALWAYS a reason.
Which is a great thing! Because if we know the WHY,
we can figure out the HOW (to fix it, that is).
I sit down with a ton of people that are stuck in this same dilemma. They're exercising like they have been for years, and instead of losing weight they are either stuck or even worse..
they're gaining. Does this sound familiar?
Well, if you're having this problem I may have your answer.
Or.. a few of them.
So I'm going to start off with a pretty well-known fact:
Our bodies are extremely adaptable.
We heal when we are broken.
We cool ourselves when we are hot.
And we adjust to whatever we do on a daily/constant basis.
Mostly good news, right?
Well, unfortunately this also applies to exercise.
Whatever we are doing all the time is
something our bodies have found to be normalcy.
Therefore, we stop losing weight.
We stop seeing our muscles grow.
We stop seeing PROGRESS.
BUT.. GOOD NEWS. How do we fix this?
3 words. CHANGE. IT. UP.
If we are rotating our exercise routines every month or so,
our bodies can never adjust to any one program for TOO LONG.
It's important to vary the type of exercise we are doing no matter WHAT you like/dislike doing in the gym. So many times I hear from people that have been doing cardio for YEARS, and used to see progress but don't any more.
Well.. that is simply because your rockstar body has gotten used to your routine.
It's miraculous, really. But in terms of weight loss; very ANNOYING.
So let's fix that. If you're always doing cardio = add in weight training 1-2X a week.
Always lifting = switch up your workout split/program with some HIIT (intervals), or steady state, and switch around which body parts you work which days.
In simple terms; keep exercising CHALLENGING.
If it stays challenging it will produce the change you are looking for.
I can't stress enough that if you are someone who ONLY does
cardio workouts in the gym YOU ARE CUTTING YOUR RESULTS IN HALF.
Cardio is an amazing tool when COMBINED with strength training
and other essential workout components.
Adding in weights will drastically shock your system and
help you burn 10X the amount of calories all day long.
Since i'm on the metaphor train here's a good one for you guys:
Imagine you're trying to fuel a train.
You need a really hot fire to have it run effectively.
You have two options:
A) Stand there and keep stoking it to try and have it run hotter
B) You can throw some more coal on it and have it running
hot for HOURS without the added effort.
Which sounds better to you?
Well.. the first option would be comparable to cardio.
You burn calories while you are DOING it, but that's all.
The second option would be the result of weightlifting.
You burn calories DURING and after weightlifting as a
result of muscle building. The more lean muscle tissue you build?
The less you have to worry about adding more coal to that fire :)
So.. need i convince you any more ?
