OCTOBER 2017 BLOG:So every month I sit down to write a blog on a topic that I find relevant or helpful to my clients and followers. Sometimes I have to think for awhile in order to come up with a subject that I like, but this time it came to me right away. Perhaps this is because I have recently discussed this exact topic with so many clients, and perhaps it's because I have had so many people come to me and complain about problems relating to this topic. WHO KNOWS! But, without further ado.. I present my ramblings on why CONSISTENCY IS KEY (especially with health & nutrition)!!
So first I just want to talk diet. We all know just HOW important of a role DIET plays in our health and fitness journeys. So why do we choose to start crazy un-maintainable diets that drive us to binge eat, splurge, or re-gain weight later on? Simple. Because we think it'll get us the results we are looking for FASTER. I want you to throw this thought process out the nearest window. That constant yo-yo process is incredibly unhealthy for your body and actually SLOWS DOWN or worse..damages your metabolism. As frustrating as it can be to hear, a consistent and maintainable diet is the absolute best option when it comes to weight loss and healthy changes. WHY? Because if the diet/nutrition is something that is easy or convenient for you, chances are you are more likely to be able to continue it for longer. Thus providing better long-term results, and more of them. What kind of diet is this?? Well, that really is up to you. I am not here to push my beliefs or preferences on YOU. What works for me, might not work for everyone! However, I am a big believer in counting Macronutrients, just for the simple fact that you know what's in the calories you are tracking. Plus...it's FLEXIBLE. And that is what is maintainable for me year-round. NOW, let's talk exercise and fitness. Just like your diet, you need to find an exercise routine that works for you. If you aren't a morning person, don't plan to workout every day before work and then fail to get out of bed and miss your exercise for the whole day. That is definitely NOT going to produce consistency. And just like with our diets, if we stay consistent with our workouts we WILL SEE RESULTS. It may take longer for some depending on the time you put in, but I promise the results will come. Now keep in mind that when I say consistent in regard to your exercise I don't mean keep the EXACT SAME ROUTINE FOR FOREVER. That won't work. Plus it will get incredibly boring... How many times can you watch some strange TV show while riding an elliptical?? You definitely want to switch up your workouts after a little while and keep your body guessing. This will produce more results, and will also increase your chances of actually showing up at the gym. If you like what you are doing (even a little bit), you are 1000% more likely to STAY CONSISTENT. So through all of that rambling, I think my main points are; If you are someone who does all of the above and just isn't seeing the results yet... stay the course. I promise that ENERGY IN = ENERGY OUT. Be honest with yourself and your habits, and make sure you track your food. If you need any extra help or a free consult, just email me! Link on homepage. If you are someone who is just starting out with this whole "healthy living" thing- Find nutrition that works, and find an exercise routine you can picture yourself showing up for every day & STICK TO IT. Don't ruin your progress with the weekends, or the holidays. Stay as on track as possible, because when you start to see those results... I promise, it will all BE WORTH IT.
